LA City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto Statement on 9th Circuit Decision to Maintain Temporary Restraining Order to Stop Illegal Immigration Raids

Posted on 08/02/2025

Angelenos have been the target of unconstitutional searches and seizures, roundups, raids, and mass detentions at the hands of armed and masked individuals, often without visible identification. By filing suit to halt these unconstitutional raids, local governments across Southern California and our individual and organizational co-plaintiffs received confirmation of what we knew when these illegal raids started in June: that the immigration enforcement tactics of the current administration violate the U.S. Constitution.

The Ninth Circuit’s decision is a victory for our communities, reaffirming that every person in the United States, regardless of immigration status, is entitled to constitutional protections, including protection from unreasonable searches and seizures, due process, and equal protection. We will always stand up for the rule of law and protect our immigrant communities.
