Los Angeles City Attorney’s Statement on Illegal Third Party Cyber Intrusion

Posted on 04/13/2026

The City, as is the case in so many corporate and government incidents of cyber intrusion, is the victim of illegal third party criminal conduct. The illegal cyber intrusion appeared and still appears to be limited to one external software program. Suspicious activity was first discovered by the City’s Information Technology Agency (ITA). ITA notified LAPD, then the Mayor’s Office, and then the City Attorney’s Office. Once our office was informed that our document sharing platform had been the subject of a cyber attack, we have been in almost daily contact with City departments and officials as we work through this process. The City is working with federal and local law enforcement to determine all the facts and will provide additional information to Council, any affected parties and the public as appropriate.

There is no impact to any City services or operations, and based on our investigation, there is no evidence any additional systems have been impacted.
